Home Ministry’s landslide, flood update: 90 killed, 20 still missing

Kathmandu, 18 July । According to the National Emergency Operation Center of the Home Ministry, as many as 90 people have lost their lives in landscape, flood and inundation throughout the country due to incense rainfall.

Center chief Bednidhi Khanal said that 20 people are still missing and 41 sustained injuries are in the disaster. Around 12,000 households are displaced and they have been sheltered in temporary shelters.


The highest number of people lost their lives in Rautahat due to the disaster, which stands at 10. Similarly, six each died in Lalitpur and Siraha while natural disaster claimed five lives each in Morang, Bhojpur, Dhanusha, Makawanpur and Sindhuli districts. Four died in Okhaldhunga, Mahottari and Dolpa and three lives each in Jhapa, Khang, Parsa, Kavrepalanchowk and Kathmandu.


According to the Center, two died in Sunsari, Bara, Dhading and Dang and one in Ilam, Panchthar, Sankhuwasabha, Udayapur, Sarlahi, Ramechhap, Palpa and Kapilvastu.


Seven have been missing in the Dolpa district and three of them in Ilam, Morang and Sindhuli. Around 10,000 families are displaced (2,400 in Sarlahi, 1,110 in Rautahat, 1,665 in Bara, 120 in Parsa, 500 in Siraha and 1,539 in Morang). Rescue and relief efforts are ongoing, and efforts are in progress to open all the obstacles in the country, said the Home Ministry.


A high-level government team on Wednesday witnessed a flood and hit areas across the air and field inspection, and took stock of the situation.
