Air service to remain closed till May 15

Kathmandu, April 25 :- The high level coordination committee on control and prevention of coronavirus has decided to close air service till May 15.

The meeting of the high level coordination committee held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Minister today took this decision, according to secretary Narayan Prasad Bidari. The meeting was chaired by the committee coordinator and Deputy Prime Minister Ishwor Pokhrel.

Both the domestic and international flights would not be operated till May 15 in order to contain the COVID-19. The meeting also reviewed the activities conducted so far to contain the virus and concluded that the lockdown was in right track. The efforts made so far for controlling and preventing the COVID-19 were giving positive result. However, the decision on whether the lockdown continues would be taken by the government, he added.

He reminded, ”Lockdown turned to be successful in lessening and controlling the risk of coronavirus. We could minimize the risk largely by the lockdown.  It is still under the control despite the detection of some cases lately. We are in a right track except in the Udyapur case, there are a fewer rate of infection in other parts. Ten out of the infected ones, have returned home after treatment.”

The committee reached the conclusion that a decision in regard with lockdown should be taken only after analyzing the state of infection rate in the neighbouring countries and the international situation.  Today is the 32nd day of the nationwide lockdown announced by the government to control the spread of the virus.

The meeting reviewed the effectiveness of the lockdown from multiple angles and thanked all those medical workers, security forces, stakeholders concerned and media who contributed in the implementation of lockdown and in making it successful.

According to secretary Bidari, upcoming Cabinet will take decision on lockdown. He added that the meeting held decisions from different angles and approaches about the effectiveness of lockdown and complications caused by it.   “How long it goes depends on situation and decision of the Cabinet,” he informed.

The modality of tracing, testing, and treating would be made further effective. 

Bidari shared that people’s access to medicines would be ensured as per need.
