57 coronavirus cases confirmed in country: Health Ministry

  Kathmandu, April 30 : So far, 12,011 people suspect of carrying Coronavirus have been tested for COVID-19 through real-time polymerase chain reaction and 46,860 through rapid diagnostic test across the country, said the Ministry of Health and Population.        

     The number of infection cases has reached 57, said the Ministry’s Spokesperson Dr Bikash Devkota at a regular press conference organised here on Thursday. Of them, 16 were discharged from hospitals after being cured and the rest are receiving treatment (31 in Biratnagar, eight in Birgunj, one in Dhangadhi and one in Bharatpur), he said.  The health of all of them is normal.

            Meanwhile, 23,336 have been quarantined across the country, and 80 kept in isolation (three in Kathmandu and 77 outside). So far, 312 have been kept in red zone.

            Medical appliances including surgical gloves, facemasks, thermometers and personal protective equipment brought from South Korea and China and have been handed to the Department of Health Services, he said.

            On the occasion, senior health administrator of the Family Welfare at the Department of Health Services, Dr Jhalak Gautam said there is an outbreak of measles across the country.

            So far, 185 people between four months to 40 years age group have been infected with measles across the country in the past five months, he said, adding that the infected are from Jhapa, Sarlahi, Dhading, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Chitwan and Gorkha districts. Of them, two children have died from the infection.

            Immunization programme against the infection has started in the affected areas from April 25 to May 5 and it would soon start in other districts in coordination with local levels, he said.
