Kathmandu, June 3 : The ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has drawn serious attention of the government to carry out fair investigation into the 23 May incident of Rukum (West) and bring the guilty to punitive actions as well as provide compensation to the victims.

Issuing a press release on the occasion of the National Day against Untouchability today, NCP general secretary Bishnu Prasad Poudel demanded actions against the perpetrator of the violent incident recalling his party’s longstanding struggle against untouchability.

Five persons including a youth from Jajarkot Nawaraj BK – who was in inter-caste love affairs with a girl from so-called higher cast – were forced to step into the Bheri River when the girl side brutally gheraoed and thrashed them. As informed their dead bodies were found in the river and one is still missing.

It was a serious discriminatory and violent incident against the Dalit community despite constitutional and legal guarantee of their rights, Poudel said, calling for meaningful and planned efforts for social and cultural transformation as a long-term solution.

‘The party condemns the tragic and terrific incident that took place in Rukum (West)’, the press release reads, clarifying that those involved in the heinous crime of untouchability would no longer remain in the party.
