UNITED NATIONS, April 2 (Xinhua) — The United Nations (UN) said on Thursday that its branch in Myanmar will continue scaling up its support for the government to prevent and contain COVID-19.

More than 5,000 sets of necessities, such as blankets, kitchen utensils, mosquito nets, and hygiene items, will soon be sent to the Yangon Regional Health Department, said Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

Dujarric added that the world organization will also support people in quarantine facilities in Yangon with food assistance.

The UN had earlier announced plans to send 50,000 test kits to the Ministry of Health and Sports.

The ministry announced on Thursday that the number of COVID-19 cases in the country has risen to 20.
