NCP discusses PM’s recent remarks on government’s ouster

The ongoing standing committee meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) discussed the recent statements made by its chair and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli in connection with the efforts underway to topple his government. The agenda discussed was in addition to the pre-stipulated agenda of the standing committee meeting.
In the meeting held at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar today, the matter concerning the prime minister’s remarks stating neighbouring India’s mechanisms and his own party leaders were covertly involved in removing the government was discussed. It may be noted that the Prime Minister Oli made the assertion at a function organized on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the late leader Madan Bhandari on June 28.
At the onset of the meeting, party chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ entered the matter for discussion in the meeting saying the prime minister’s remarks have created confusion and it needed to be clarified.
According to NCP spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha, 18 standing committee members including senior leader duo Madhav Kumar Nepal and Jhalanath Khanal, vice-chair Bamdev Gautam, spokesperson Shrestha, Beduram Bhusal, Astalaxmi Shakya, MKukunda Neupane, Bhim Rawal, Raghujee Pant, Yubaraj Gyawali, Surendra Pandey, Janardan Sharma, Pampha Bhusal, Gokarna Bista, Bhim Acharya and Ganesh Sah aired their views on the matter.
In response, the Prime Minister clarified his recent remarks and expressed his confidence towards the party.
On a query of journalists regarding PM’s resignation, Spokesperson Shrestha said there was no such thing raised and discussed in the meeting. “The meeting however dwelt on several issues related to the government and the party. Discussion is underway. The Chairperson duo will discuss the matter. The secretariat meeting will take place accordingly and the standing committee will make synthesis as per the need. There was no discussion on resignation”, he added.
In addition, the standing committee members had enquired about the filing of application at the Election Commission for the registration of a party namely CPN-UML and involvement of any leaders of the party in the process.
It came to notice that the party was registered under the leadership of Sandhya Tiwari of Jhapa.
The standing committee meeting that started on June 24 had discussed the agenda related to border encroachment. The agendas of assessment of government and party performance, backlog of organizational unity and MCC compact, among others are yet to be discussed in the meeting. Next meeting will take place at 11.00 am on Wednesday.
